DEFINE
Tell us the material or component, aircraft application and the requirement you need to meet.
FLAMMABILITY · HEAT RELEASE · SMOKE · FTIR
Aircraft interior materials and components must meet defined fire-safety requirements before they enter service. The required test depends on the material, the component, where it is installed and the applicable aircraft or customer specification.
LANTAL's Fire Test Lab in Langenthal, Switzerland supports airlines, airframers, seat manufacturers, cabin-interior suppliers, design organizations and material producers with aviation-specific fire testing and certification support.
If the correct test route is not yet clear, start with the application and the requirement you need to meet. Our team can help define the next step.
WHAT WE TEST
The applicable test method depends on the material, component and installation. The overview below reflects the core aviation capabilities of the LANTAL Fire Test Lab.
DELEGATED TESTING & TEST WITNESSING
For agreed programs and test methods, OEMs and design organizations can delegate defined testing and test-witnessing activities to LANTAL. Our laboratory team carries out the agreed work within the defined framework and documents the results on the customer's behalf.
This can add qualified testing capacity during program peaks, support projects where specialist flammability know-how is required and reduce the need to maintain every test capability internally.
The exact delegation, witnessing and documentation arrangement is defined with the OEM or design organization for the individual program.

ON-SITE FLAMMABILITY TRAINING
LANTAL provides intensive on-site flammability training for OEM, engineering, certification and laboratory teams. Typical programs run for one to three days and combine regulatory background with practical knowledge from real laboratory testing.
Training can cover test-method selection, specimen preparation, test setup, common causes of failure, interpretation of results and the practical implications of CS/FAR 25.853 and relevant OEM test methods.
The content can be tailored to the team's experience level, aircraft program and certification responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
The laboratory combines aviation-specific approvals, independent accreditation and aerospace testing experience with a team that works daily with transportation materials and certification requirements.
Airbus-approved for defined aviation fire-test methods. Confirm the applicable AITM method and current approval scope for your project.
The Langenthal Fire Test Lab is independently accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025 for defined aviation- and railway-specific fire testing activities.
Nadcap accreditation for Non-Metallic Materials Testing. The applicable scope for a specific program is defined by the current certificate and Qualified Manufacturers List.
FIRE PERFORMANCE
Aviation fire testing is configuration-specific. Material composition, thickness, backing, adhesives, foam, orientation and installation can all influence the result.
That is why the first question is not only “Which standard?” but also “What exactly is being certified?” Defining the specimen correctly before testing reduces unnecessary iterations later in the program.
